Becoming an Oak Tree

Recently, my sister in law reached out and asked why I have been so distant and not responding to her texts as quick as I used to. She also wanted me to know that she loved me dearly and that she was praying for me and missed me. I know at some point she will read this, so hi Emily! I love you!

We are close and we have a beautiful friendship. In part of my response to her I told her that even though it seemed that I had disappeared I was really only lingering in the shadows and not really gone. You see, I am seeing what everyone is doing but not involving myself in it. My attention in this season of rest has drastically shifted to my family. We are in a season where I do not feel it is selfish to give them all of my time. My focus tends to stay inward and less outward.

How can I continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus? I believe my calling right now is my family. My ministry is my family. I do not lead my family, that’s my husbands responsibility, but I do support and uplift them. As you all get to know us better you will learn all the flaws and struggles and see just how real we are and just how much we need Jesus and each other!

Pastor Rick Warren says that When God makes a mushroom He takes 6 hours and when He makes an oak tree He takes 60 years. And then he asks: Do you want your life to be a mushroom or an oak tree? That’s a great question. I laughed and thought well I’ll probably be 2 oak trees! We live in a society that wants instant gratification. We live in a society where the next best thing is the priority. How can we make money the fastest? How can we lose weight the quickest? How fast can we change our lives?

While I do not think any of these are bad things, I do think we don't have to rush to get them done. Focus on the now. Focus on the change. Watch as God transforms your life and don't miss any of the journey. He is perfecting us for His glory... Not for my glory, not for your glory, not for a company's glory, not for a products glory, not for a person's glory, FOR HIS GLORY.

And so for now, for His glory, my focus is my family. And my plan is to become an oak tree.

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

You've stumbled across the ramblings of a wife and mom. This is my place to come say all the things I'm thinking and share the truths about those thoughts based on God's word. I am a simple girl. I love Jesus, my husband, and my 3 kiddos that I homeschool. I am grateful for this life God has given me. If you've stuck around and read any of this shenanigans, I am definitely grateful for you!
