A Season of Rest

As a family, we have recently entered A Season of Rest. Of course, this can mean many different things for different families. It doesn’t mean we aren’t busy. But it does mean that we are taking our time and really listening to God. We are a family that is committed to 10 hours in 4 styles of therapy, 5 hours in 2 different sports, and at least 20 hours of homeschooling, plus the normal throes of life EVERY SINGLE WEEK! So clearly, our season of rest doesn’t mean we get to sit around and do nothing.

There have been many seasons, years, of saying yes. Yes, I’ll make 6 dozen cupcakes for the bake sale. Yes, I’ll walk you around ALL the neighborhoods selling cookies. Yes, you can play every sport you want this year. Yes, we can take that trip. Yes, we can go to that celebration. Yes, we can host that dinner, that event, that party. Yes, I can watch your kids for the weekend. Of course, they can come over every afternoon this week. Yes, I can help set up for the meeting. I can order the books. I can organize and send the emails. I can do whatever you need help with. Yes, I can lead a small group. Yes, I can lead that ministry. Yes, I can write that curriculum. Yes, I can. Yes. Yes, Yes, Yes!!!

Saying yes is wonderful! Saying yes fills your life with love, meaning, adventure, purpose, and the ability to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Saying yes has been our way of life for the past 10 years. Saying yes is not a bad thing.

After a particularly demanding few months of yes, earlier this year, we felt God calling us into A Season of Rest. But what does that look like? What does that mean? Why did God put this in our hearts while we were fasting?

This is what I am going to be exploring over the next few entries. What it means to me, what I am finding in God’s word, what I have learned from those around me, how I can encourage my family to rest and what God is whispering to me even as I write these words.

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

You've stumbled across the ramblings of a wife and mom. This is my place to come say all the things I'm thinking and share the truths about those thoughts based on God's word. I am a simple girl. I love Jesus, my husband, and my 3 kiddos that I homeschool. I am grateful for this life God has given me. If you've stuck around and read any of this shenanigans, I am definitely grateful for you!
